Rejection is amazing.
Many of us have a big fear of rejection, and believe it to be a bad thing. Getting rejected almost affirms our negative beliefs about ourselves, that actually we were right about “not being good enough” or “worthy enough” for that job, that audition, that person etc. But what we do not realise is that we create these realities in our head. Remember that nothing and no-one can tell you whether or not you’re good enough. You decide that for yourself. Whatever you believe about yourself will be true. In rejection, we find our POWER. Rejection is an amazing thing, and in this article, I will tell you why.
The more you are rejected, the more you learn, and the more you grow. Many of us do not do the things we want to, out of the fear of rejection. We do not apply for that job, we do not talk to the person we like, we do not want to meet new people, and the list goes on. But the reality is, that we only live once. If you never do anything because you are afraid of being rejected, you will never get anything you want. And you will certainly not learn and grow as a person. Let us take two situations from two different perspectives as an example :
Person A :
Person A would really love to be a model. They find it interesting and really fun and it could be their passion. However, they see all of the other models in the agency they were looking at, and think that there’s no way they’d be accepted and there’s not much point in trying even. They don’t even know how to stand in front of a camera. Do they really think they are good enough for this agency after seeing all of the gorgeous models? They don’t do anything about it and accept they are probably more suited to the office job they are currently in.
Person B :
Person B hates the office job they are currently in. They are going to do something about it to change this. Person B knows they only have one life and they are going to live it. They always dreamed of becoming a model. They have been looking at this one agency for a while, but haven’t done much research on any others. They take a look and find 15 different modelling agencies to apply to. They take a few modelling classes, build up their portfolio and apply to all 15 agencies. They don’t think about how that first agency they applied to may reject them, there are 14 others! They don’t think about the other models. Person B knows that they have what it takes and believes in themselves. All 15 agencies end up rejecting person B. Some were a bit of a scam, some weren’t looking for Person B’s type of look, age etc. But Person B doesn’t lose hope. Remember, if one won’t, another one will! They do more thorough research and apply to two other agencies that they didn’t find before. One of these agencies loved Person B’s portfolio and said their look is perfect for their agency. Person B is now working as a professional commercial model.
You see the difference?
If you give up at every small obstacle or don’t even try to begin with, how can you expect results? Notice the difference in both the mindset and the energy that Person B invested into their dream as opposed to Person A.
That’s why we need to stop viewing rejection as a bad thing, but rather as the great thing that leads us to our end goal.
Here are some of the most famous people who got rejected. If they had lost hope after getting rejected, would they have ever been as successful as they were?
