It Is The Damn Phone!

If you’re younger and still live with your parents, I am sure they have told you multiple times to stay off your phone. In fact, whenever you complain about something, nine times out of ten, they tell you it’s because of that ‘damn phone’. Everywhere now, we are beginning to see and realize the negative effects and the strain that technology can have on our day to day lives. And I’m not saying everything about technology is bad. There are endless positive sides to it and without it, many of us wouldn’t be living the lives we are today. But in this article, I am going to discuss bad habits we develop because of technology and offer advice on how to combat some of these issues. Remember : you shouldn’t be a slave to technology, technology should work for YOU.

First, I am going to talk about the most obvious way technology can negatively influence our lives - comparison. If you are a person who finds themselves feeling worse about themselves after coming off social media, I would advise you to just go ahead and delete the app and invest time into working on your self-love and confidence. If you are unable to delete the app for whatever reason, I would suggest putting a timer on the app and also influencing your feed to only show things that are of value to you and make you happy. Read more on how to turn comparison into inspiration in my article : ‘Stop Comparing : Start Being Inspired’. Trust me, if you do this, you will prevent yourself from seeing things that incite negative emotions and therefore, put you in a low vibrational state.

Secondly, a very bad habit 99% of us have developed is scrolling on social media, especially before bed-time, which is the WORST time to do it. If you haven’t read my article : ‘The Importance of a Morning and Night-Time Routine’, go ahead and read it. It will provide you with a great, detailed explanation on how having a productive morning and night-time routine will ultimately put us more in control over our actions and behaviour and overall, better our lives. Scrolling rids us of our TIME, SUCCESS and POWER. We subconsciously sit in one spot, robotically and mindlessly watching useless video after the next, until something snaps us out of our hypnosis and we realize we have spent two hours or more on our phones. We are left feeling mentally and physically drained and have no motivation left to do the things that matter most to us. Isn’t that scary? It is like we are prisoners to our phones. Imagine spending the time you spend scrolling, dedicating yourself to something productive instead, whether that be exercise, a project, getting fresh air etc. Imagine how much better you’d feel and how much faster you’d reach your goals.

Your eyes are sore, you have a migraine, you feel tired all the time. Sound familiar? It’s because of the screen. If people understood and applied the power of spending daily time in nature, breathing fresh air into your lungs, getting some sun on your face, drinking plenty of water and getting enough sleep, you would feel better instantly. Another thing, is to be present always. You don’t always need to be entertained. Sometimes I’ll even find myself picking up my phone as I’m watching a movie or in between sets when I’m exercising and I would deeply advise you to cut this habit out of your life. Be 100% present in whatever you do. Put your phone out of reach so it’s not visible and easily accessible to you. No distractions.

Hope you guys once again enjoyed this article! And always remember - IT IS THE DAMN PHONE!!! Stay tuned for much more!
